Catalog
Grandfathering
Leaving existing customers on the pricing they signed up to when new pricing is introduced.
Grandfathering keeps existing customers on old terms after a price change. It protects goodwill and avoids a churn spike at the cost of a catalog that carries several live prices for the same product.
It is only sustainable if the billing system treats prices as versions rather than as editable values. Otherwise every repricing becomes a migration project, and the pressure to avoid that project is what leads businesses to reprice everyone at once and take the churn.
Decide up front how long grandfathered pricing lasts. “Forever” is a commitment that gets more expensive every year.
